Re: 2008.12 archboot test iso/img files

Successfully installed from usb on a 32bit system. Thanks.

The down side is that linux is not yet ready for my notebook. I have to wait for the release of the 2.6.28 kernel in order to use proper intel graphics drivers. Anyway, in just a couple of month it will be released I think.

Another thing, I really love Arch but It's is sooo boring to install. I really hate to do everything manually: configure the system (just the basics), figure out which graphic driver do I have to use, download the DE (kde basic ~300mb), and the configure the DE. I know, once it's done you really know what's in your system and what's not but......well, I'm just lazy.

I really love what the kdemod guys are doing...I hope the come up with a final version of chackra soon. KDEmod + Arch + Easy to install = A dream come true haha.
I hope the keep it simple. I don't like distros that install everything from the beginning (ubuntu, fedora, etc.). I want just a basic system.

Well, sorry for the offtopic.
Bye.

Re: 2008.12 archboot test iso/img files

Decided I wanted to try a 64bit install, and thought I would check your installer at the same time. It works great. I had no problems with my hardware (yet).

When will the iso come with the 2.6.28 kernel and ext4 support?

Yeah, we have to orientate the users to not make a ext4 bootable partition, a message in the installer could be possible?

Well, I must say I like your iso's I love how I can choose to turn off that horrendous uuid system which is such a hassle. So keep up the good work, tpowa.

I think you meant to say grub with ext4. wink

And tpowa, yeah, uuid makes the management of Linux partitions so much complicated, it is not KISS at all. I like what you have made to the installer and keeping it as KISS as possible. Keep up the good work.

Now, after installing 2.6.28 I will start migrating my ext3 partitions to ext4. Hey, tpowa, it would be neat to have a ext4 option in the installer now. wink

Re: 2008.12 archboot test iso/img files

Unfortunately i have a problem sad The install passes perfectly on my HP 6730b notebook, but when i reboot it after the install, i get a non-system disk error, i have AHCI enabled and i don't want to go to compatible mode, as far as i can tell, it seems to be a problem with grub not reading the disk geometry properly so the MBR ends up messed up. Does anyone have an idea?

Re: 2008.12 archboot test iso/img files

I downloaded the iso image and tried in my laptop(Acer 291LCi). Clock selection/key map settings were made easy. After base installation I installed alsa but no sound. I checked all the dependency and tried to make it ok but could not succeed. Still text are flowing out of the window and hope this can be corrected. Thanks for this image.

Will new, stable ArchLinux install disc be available soon? This 2008.12 is still in testing?

Phrakture was planning to do a release before 2009.  I've seen some mails going around so I think the release won't take long anymore.

Re: 2008.12 archboot test iso/img files

I have everything backed up for a fresh install. tongue

Everything I wanted to keep was either:
1. Fittable on my 4GB USB (Still has ~975MB left tongue)
2. Already on my iPod tongue

Probably I'll just backup my ~/.mozilla folder one last time before I make the switch.

Afaik grub seem to be patched with ext4 support, will the next image utilize the latest kernel so I can install ext4 on my root on my next install?

Re: 2008.12 archboot test iso/img files

What is the preferred way to install ext4 right now. I have to reinstall arch on my laptop and would like to have ext4 if possible?

Thanks
