after searching archstats, i wonder that a lot of different versions of pkgs are being run - is this because you do not -Suy frequently? let's find out!

I usually preform an upgrade in the morning when I first get into work. That way if anything breaks I have all day to figure it out.

If I don't upgrade daily, I seem to get hopelessly behind. On the other hand, most days there is nothing or very little to upgrade... and the big packages (xorg, for example), I don't do all at once, I run it for a half hour or so each day until it and any packages that accumulate after it are done.

I also was wondering. Either not -Suy or archstats -u.
When I am in Singapore, I check daily for updates. Archstats runs when booting (/etc/rc.local).

I upgrade nearly every day:
1) First i check the new packages on www.archlinux.org.
2.a) If either glibc, gcc, xorg, or the whole gnome* packages are released, i (cowardly) wait 1 or 2 more days, consciously scrutating the forums. When everything seems more or less OK, i upgrade.
2.b) If no crucial package is released, i do an upgrade without hesitation.

I have been meaning to ask this question as well. I am interested to see if those people who wait for weeks or months have any problems when they fianlly get around to upgrading. I need to sit on a stable system when I get one. Bleeding edge instability isn't for me when I have other issues to deal with.

I have had never any problem with my backup hard disk when updating the packages once or every two months, except it takes time to download.

Some people like me may have run archstats in the past, but gradually forgot about its exsistence. That may also be a reason for the large number of versions that are hanging around @ archstats. I run -Syu daily, however.

Then there should be a poll: "How often do you archstats -u"

I upgrade when I see on archlinux.org that some package which I have installed was upgraded.
Gnome - The weakest link!
Linux, *not* GNU/Linux!

if you want to use archstats, then you should also run its -u after every pacman -Suy ... else, it is not serious statistics

I only "srcpac -Syu" since it grabs my pkgbuilds for me too though...
