I just recently started having a weird issue while surfing the web, most of the time pages render text normally, but at random the text looks as if someone had used a magic marker to scratch out the lines of text. If I select the text, it looks normal again, and the same goes for taking a screenshot. I thought it was an issue with firefox at first, so I tried it out in epiphany and got the same result.
For the record, I am running gnome with the nvidia 96xx drivers and compiz-fusion on a Dell Inspiron 8200 (32bit system) and the only real break from the basic arch install that has been updated just about daily, is the addition of fbsplash.
Has anyone else run into this issue?

I get this sometimes too. Half the page gets wiped when scrolling down, but for whatever simply insane reason it works when I scroll back up (if there's enough room to scroll back up). Using intel embedded video on an old desktop without fbsplash; the problem is 99.9999% certainly not your configuration.

Windows was made for looking at success from a distance through a wall of oversimplicity. Linux removes the wall, so you can just walk up to success and make it your own.

This has actually happened to me in Firefox and AbiWord. I use a 7600GT with the nvidia package. The problem is corrected if I select the text or scroll up.

well....I solved the problem.........kinda......
I switched from the nvidia drivers to the nv driver, and the problem went away. Of course now I dont have the full use of my card, so I need to look deeper.

Happened to me often with evolution while I was writing new mail, compiz was making problems. Try with compiz turned off and see if this happens again.
I am using xmonad now so I don't have that kind of problems anymore.
Gnome -> Openbox -> Awesome -> XMonad -> dwm .

Same problem: also 96xx drivers, kernel .28, testing, stumpwm. Problem goes away when I switch to nv. I don't use fbsplash, but I do use directfb...

Same problem here and it is getting annoying. Even after two updates of nvidia-96xx in the meanwhile, I still have the problem. Redirecting to standard vesa solves the problem, but supports only 640x480 and 800x600... Perhaps I should also install mesa to get that nv driver...
Aren't there nvdia-96xx drivers in the AUR that don't have the problem? Anyone tried this?

My problem seems to have gone away now after the latest update.
