so far the only image viewer i have come across with print support has been picasa.
i like xnview - but it doesnt have it. is there anything like picasa thats not wine-based? i wish there was an awesome image viewer/organizer - but i havent found one.
what are you guys using?

xnview is available in the AUR

i meant to say that xnview doesnt print. i have it, i like it, but theres no print feature...i like picasa, but im trying to shy away from wine apps.

you don't need wine to run picasa - there is a linux-version of it ...

as far as i know thats picasa-beta (in the AUR)...it runs with wine, its just not obvious about it. according to google:
"All downloads are approximately 30 MB: Picasa software (13 MB), Wine (11 MB) and Gecko engine (6 MB)."

what about eog, geeqie/gqview, gthumb, gimmage. All appear to have print support.

wow, i must have tried all of the except those (red in the face), thanks a million
eog and gqview it is!
(running openbox and awesome, so trying to stay away from gnome/kde apps as much as possible too)

Uh, EOG requires Gnome's backend, and GQview has an old interface that might even be GTK1.x. I suggest Ristretto, which uses the XFCE backend. Its UI bears striking resemblance to iPhoto, and it's designed to be fast even on older hardware. Definitely has a print option, but I think it requires a certain backend to interface with CUPS. I don't print photos, so I never investigated, but it should work.

GIMP is cumbersome in comparison to a quick image viewer, but it prints as well.
I use it for viewing and editing and use KIM to compress, resize and change to jpg's or whatever.

You can hide most of gqview's gui (which is GTK2, but ugly). I have nothing but the image when it launches. It will allow mouse scroll or page up/down through the current directory, so navigation is easy. If I need to print, I would open the side bar, print, then close it again.

bummer, your right. eog is gnome (nice app though).
i had ristretto and could never get it to print.
i don't mind gtk - i just prefer not to have several gnome-related dependencies installed...so i'll stick with just gqview, i like the program and its only dependency is gtk.
as far as gimp - i use it for editing, but super wack to use as an image browser. even printing takes too much configuring for quick stuff.
goodbye eog, it requires too much drama:
* desktop-file-utils
* exempi>=2.0.1
* gnome-desktop>=2.24.2
* gnome-icon-theme>=2.24.0
* lcms>=1.17
* libexif>=0.6.16
[edit: checked up on gqview and eog dependencies]
[edit: sorry, gqview is not gnome, cleaned up my post]

gwenview is nice.

gqview is not a Gnome app; It's a GTK2 app.

I've been running opebbox3 for quite awhile now and upon yet another fresh install I went out seeking the (current) best lightweight image viewer with print support. Hello EOG!
With the March 2009 release of version 2.26, they have greatly reduced their library dependencies. Below is the pacman output (with GTK2 and openbox already installed);
bash-3.2# pacman -S eog
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
Targets (3): libexif-0.6.17-1 exempi-2.1.0-1 eog-2.26.1-1
Total Download Size: 3.39 MB
Total Installed Size: 11.95 MB
Not bad! I'm using Tint2 and PC MAN FM, and GTK of course. This is less than ristretto (XFCE image viewer) requires -- although if you're using XFCE, ristretto is worth a try!
Hope this helps.
