Guys, is there anything special about dm-crypt or cryptsetup in kernel26-ice 2.6.28-1 compared to the previous kernels?
Here's my problem - I have a setup with encrypted root and swap partitions made under the older kernel (I think it was kernel26 2.6.26-some-small-number).
After I upgraded to kernel26-ice 2.6.28-1, the "encrypt" hook complains that "Command failed: Can not access device".
This is the "encrypt" hook that was installed during the initial system setup, no modifications (md5: 40fee2419cd444cfb283c311f9555d2d).
Seems it's unable to map the device, but I can't figure why or even what to start looking at.
I'd be grateful for any pointers.

hey, can you post /boot/grub/menu.lst and you mkinitcpio.conf files (for both kernels)?
my guesses (without more information) are:
a) you're giving the wrong option to root= and some program called by the [encrypt] hook can't find what you've told it look for.
b) you dont' have all the modules you need in the -ice kernel's initcpio, and the block device with root isn't being created
c) similarly, udev is screwing up somehow. are you using the [autodetect] hook or specifying the modules.
d) did you rebuild the mkinitcpio for the -ice kernel?

Is it the same issue as the last person in this thread? http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=55842

Just pasted the menu.lst and immediately saw I was booting the right kernel26-ice.img but the wrong vmlinuz -
vmlinuz26 instead of vmlinuz26-ice. Fixed that line and things returned back to normal.
How silly of me. Don't know how that escaped my eye before. Should be more attentive in the future.
Thanks a lot.

this is exactly why i haven't tried to install a parallel kernel yet... i *know* i'll do the exact same thing! go ahead and mark as solved.
