totem with gstramer backend?

Thought comes from a news in the footnote website:
http://www.gnomedesktop.org/article.php … =0&thold=1
and how about compile totem with gstreamer, meanwhile gstreamer-ffmpeg for non-free format.
I know xine-libs is great, but anyway, gstreamer seems the trend.

Re: totem with gstramer backend?

my thought on this as maintainer of totem, is that the last gst-plugins release wasn't yet ready for prime time.
It missed support for mkv/ogm so i bugged Ronald Bultje for it and he said to me last night that the ogm support is pretty good the mkv support is not so nice yet. so i will compile it all soon and will see how it works now smile

Re: totem with gstramer backend?

well i just decided after talking to one of the gstreamer dev's the current version won't be build with gstreamer. the reason for this is that gstreamer hasn't got full dvd support and bad mkv support.

however i am thinking of putting a gstreamer based totem into unstable.
called gst-totem or something like that.
i will look into it tomorrow.

Re: totem with gstramer backend?

hanks very much for your so quick response, now I am downloading your gstreamer backend totem. However I meet problems with totem(0.99.17) in current repo.

[ganlu@A ~]$ totem
totem: error while loading shared libraries: libnautilus-burn.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I install nautilus-cd-burner, then totem said:

[ganlu@A ~]$ totem
totem: error while loading shared libraries: libhal.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I don't know why totem will depend on cd burner and what's wrong with hal(gnome-vfs?) I am running gnome 2.8. Thanks.

Re: totem with gstramer backend?

totem works after hal package installed, but I think it's betterto make other two packages the dependence of totem, so user don't get lost.

Re: totem with gstramer backend?

I have tried totem with gstreamer backend, but when I play a xvid avi movie, I get black screen, only sound can be heard. I don't know anybody have the same problem? I have xorg 6.8.1, G400 xorg stock driver.
