[Solved] Xorg problems after fresh install

Hey everyone, I am pretty sure I messed up the hotplugging settings when installing xorg. Now, my machine just boots into the Kdemod3 login screen and the machine will not accept mouse or keyboard input.

Thus, I can't seem to kill X so I can get to the shell to fix the issue. How can I boot directly into the command line so I can edit the xorg.conf file, or start the hal daemon?

I saw some other threads, but none seemed to supply a useful fix.:(

Tipo,

when you see the Grub screen hit 'e' to edit the boot line, add a '3' at the end and hit 'b' to boot.

The '3' will take you to level 3, no X.

Or edit with a LiveCD.

When you are in the system, install xf86-input-evdev if not already done, and move /etc/X11/xorg.conf out of the
way (just rename it). X is now able to start without a config file.

If you start kdm as daemon, you will need to use init 1 or single at boot
and then remove kdm from rc.conf.
Also, take note of 10-keymap.fdi which is stated in http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … otplugging

My xorg-less usb hard disk is able to boot various PC with various brands of graphic card without any configuration at all. :-)

Mektub, thank you! I was able to mount my internal HD from the LiveCD and make the changes to xorg/add hal as a startup daemon.
