I just installed gnome and I have my b43 broadcom working (through terminal configuration). How do I go about installing an applet on my panel to select wireless networks? (yes, similar to ubuntu..)

Ubuntu uses Network Manager by default, gnome has an applet for it, run this
# pacman -S gnome-network-manager

Another option is wicd.

+1 for wicd

Another option is wicd.
I endorse this option as well.
Many Arch users come to prefer its simplicity..

wicd ++;
They say that if you play a Win cd backward you hear satanic messages. That's nothing! 'cause if you play it forwards, it installs windows.

So I installed wicd, which is working with my wired card, but it won't connect to my wep router ![]()

Do you tried with all WEP encryptions (HEX, PASSPHRASE and SHARED)?

According to my router settings page I'm on hex, so I did that and passphrase, should I try shared?

I use WPA and the Wicd only connect with Preshared Key and with Passphrase doesn't work I don't know why.
A sugestion: Use WPA instead, because WEP is very simple to break with simple tools:
kismet: to detect your wireless network
aircrack-ng: to crack your WEP protection
wireshark: to sniff your packages

I'm sorry, but is wicd really more simple than NetworkManager? I have to disagree on that issue.

Lord Illidan:
I wouldn't say it's simpler. It has more configuration available making it more customizable. But, I think it's much more reliable than NetworkManager, which I always had problems with when running it on Ubuntu. Once I switched to Wicd I never turned back.
