Technisat SkyStar2

hi everyone,
after i had some issues with my hauppauge wintv 3000 (video output of dvb s was quite laggy and broken but dvbt was just running fine) i removed it and ordered a new one (skystar2). i read several forums and wiki entries telling me that this card is working but i also noticed that it depends on the kernel version!?!? roll

does anyone own this card and can tell me that it's fully supported and working + if possible, a short guide howto get it working probably!? big_smile

would be great if you can drop a line and report some info about this card! smile

best regards
arch0r :>

Re: Technisat SkyStar2

Did you order an SS2 DVB-S2/HDTV card? The old SS2 (rev. 2.3, 2.6) are supported for many years now.

You need to install an RTFM interface.

Re: Technisat SkyStar2

plain skystar2 without hd support because there aren't any hd channels in germany avaible (over astra 19,2) except paytv

link to german page where i ordered it: http://www.csv-direct.de/artinfo.php?ar … va=froogle

Re: Technisat SkyStar2

Last kernel which I use for an SS2 is 2.6.18. There is some confusion lately because of multiple DVB driver branches, and people often use latest development snapshots, mainly for full featured cards and DVB-S2, I haven't bothered to figure out that "mess". But I believe you won't have any problems with the latest kernel, I see that Arch config has: CONFIG_DVB_BUDGET=y, CONFIG_DVB_STV0299=m, CONFIG_DVB_B2C2_FLEXCOP=m, CONFIG_DVB_B2C2_FLEXCOP_PCI=m ... all you need for your SS2.

Once you load the modules (or udev), probably the fastest way to test the video is using xine, you can create a channel list with utils from linuxtv-dvb-apps package (which you probably know already):
$ ~/dvb-apps-1.1.1/util/scan/scan dvb-s/Astra-19.2E | tee channels.conf
$ cp channels.conf ~/.xine/
$ xine dvb://1

You can then proceed with VDR http://www.cadsoft.de/vdr :^)

Re: Technisat SkyStar2

wow very kind of you and thanks for your replay smile

do i'll have to download/compile any drivers from linuxtv.org or will this card be detected by the kernel and run "out-of-the-box"!?

hopefully it'll run. smile

As I said, default Arch kernel26 has full support for those "old" SS2 cards.

Re: Technisat SkyStar2

ahh cool did't really get what you've meant big_smile
where did you look that up?

i've also seen that there are several revisions of the card avaible; latest one is 2.8 (i think i ordered a 2.6) which has even a proprietary linux driver provided by technisat oO

Re: Technisat SkyStar2

where did you look that up?

$ zcat /proc/config.gz
Which is the configuration of the currently running kernel (in this case arch kernel26 package).
