Openbox on KDEmod3

Does anyone have experience running openbox on top of KDEmod3? How well does it work for you? Seems like a simple question, but I don't have my box right now to install it or try it out, so I was just wondering people's opinions smile

From what I understand there is a lot of additional configuration involved when you're not running it on a desktop environment, right? I've read through the openbox wiki and am a bit confused about running it standalone... It just seemed to me like it was an easier setup to install a DE and throw OB on it.

Re: Openbox on KDEmod3

it's easier to configure a de than openbox although there are several good graphical programms to edit configs for openbox. but kdemod3 without openbox is also quite nice. i couldn't even notice any improvements/accelerations in starting up programms etc in comparision to openbox.

Should work, but IMO you'd get a lot more speed boost / less bloat by just switching to a WM by itself rather than replacing your WM in a DE. Also, going without a DE gives a neat feeling of _really_ crafting your own desktop experience wink

If you do do it, please benchmark before and after idle RAM/CPU so others can benefit smile

Well, after using KDEmod3 for about 10 minutes, I've switch to a plain openbox setup -- still configuring. It seems much more, uhh, awesome!

Unfortunately, I didn't read your post before removing KDEmod, so I didn't get the benchmarks hmm

Heh - don't overwhelm him/her with awesomeness! Wait until they've discovered the awesomeness of a WM standalone before telling them about the awesomeness of tiling wink
