I would like to know how I can assign key commands manually using the keycodes directly. For brightnessdown the keycode is 101 and for brightnessup it is 212. For some reason, I was able to use keytouch-editor to make a custom file and get the volume keys working (Fn + F2, F3, F4) but whenever I pressed the brightness keys (Fn + F5, F6), keytouch does not do anything. The popup asking to press the function keys just stays there and nothing happens.
Since I know the keycodes, isn't there a way I could just assign that to brightness functions?
A bigger problem is that I can't change the brightness at all in arch. I'm on battery power and the brightness is full. I'm using Xfce and can't figure out a way to change the brightness (I'm one of those people who usually has the brightness all the way down and reads the screens like calculator screens -- almost no backlight). I need to know how to change the brightness first before I can assign a keyboard shortcut to this. It worked fine in Ubuntu, but now I just have to nail down which packages let it happen.
