Hey Gang,
First off I've just made the switch from Ubuntu to Arch. I've been using Ubuntu Linux since 6.06 steady as it just worked. But over the last couple years I've noticed that Ubuntu is pretty bloated, and I don't use over half of the stuff that comes with it. This is certainly not a rant against ubuntu, it's a great system that works out of the box with very little, if any hassle, but it's not my system either. It's a system made by somebody else who thinks it would be good for me, and it was! But also being a computer science student with too much free time I wanted a challenge too.
Coming from a distro that does everything for you Arch was intimidating, so I spent from 9 am to 9 pm downloading the ISO, configuring up my wireless (4 hours alone, stupid Atheros!). All in all what I got was a very minmal system with Fluxbox as my GUI, researched some to get the missing gaps (file manager, video players etc etc) and I must say in direct comparison to Ubuntu Arch is insanely faster! I'm very very pleased with the overall speed jump I got from losing all the generic services that bogged down my boot time, ate up my ram, and taxed my CPU a bit more then it really needed to.
Now my difficulty was simply from being spoiled on Ubuntu and exploring my way around Arch Linux. Knowing what I know now I could probably do the same install in about 2 hours tops. This is only my first few hours with Arch linux post-install, and so far I'm loving every minute of it. For sure I'm going to live with Arch for the next month at the very least to give this distro it's fair chance.
If the rest of the month continues on like it has in the last 4 hours ( I can't see why not) Then I don't think I'll be booting up Ubuntu on my system anytime soon.

Welcome. You have been assimilated.

But if they tell you that I've lost my mind, maybe it's not gone just a little hard to find...
