Hi all,
I've searched the forums and I could not find the answer to this perplexing problem. Suddenly my optical drives stopped being able to boot from. I have a Dell Dimension 4600i with both dvd and cd drives.. I use to boot from them and now I couldn't.

I'd say check your BIOS settings first to ensure that it is allowing you to boot from the optical drive. beyond that I've got nothing.

It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law.

Thanks for the reply. Yes that is what I did first. I even change the boot sequence to have the cd-rom drive read first, but still didnt work. This did not use to be, I could F12 and enter the location of my first boot. I was so content with Arch that I stop distro hoping for a while and did not need to check out any new live distros till today and found out about this. Is it possible that GRUB may have cause this?

As a matter of fact, I think I have the same problem. It takes waaay longer before the bootable cd/dvd finally boots. Sometimes it just doesn't. Odd.
