Application suggestions

Hi,
Have a new fresh openbox installed with Firefox, Thunar, Sylpheed and Sonata.

Now I would like to have some more application suggestions:
- A good text editor for openbox
- Application to handle backgrounds
- Application to handle screensaver
- Remote desktop application (RDP client)

And another thing, seems there are tons of folks here using urxvt, cant fint it as a package, whats it called and how to get the nice splash showing the Archlogo, WM-Manager, WM-Theme, Font...

Re: Application suggestions

1.) emacs or Vim (or one of their forks or GUIs). There are no others that compare.
2.) feh or Nitrogen.
3.) xscreensaver?
4.) SSH + tunnel X11.
5.) rxvt-unicode. Look in AUR for patched packages, too.

Re: Application suggestions

Why don't you try gedit? I have great experience with it and since you have firefox you have most of the gtk libraries ;-)

gedit requires Gnome libraries, not just gtk.  My suggestion for an editor similar to gedit/kwrite would be medit.  You may also look into geany if you use it for any type of coding.

Re: Application suggestions

Check out PuTTy for a Windows client that can connect to SSH, including X11.
