So, when attempting to play movies with a high resolution (720p and up) MPlayer does something interesting. In windowed mode, the movie plays just as expected, but when I switch to fullscreen the movie just kind of shutters around and plays very slowly. I thought this strange so tested playback in VLC. In VLC it works just wonderfully. Could it have something to do with the output I'm using or is MPlayer officially retarded?
Peter
EDIT:
It seems, after further investigation, it only happens when using Xv as an output. If I switch to OpenGL everything is fine. So, why is Xv acting up all of a sudden?

I been seeing this also with some 720p and up H264 streams. If I had to guess, I'd say that higher profile H264 streams are too much work for the xv driver, so Mplayer is dropping frames. On my system using the xvmc driver fixes the problem.

I'm not sure if fglrx has xvmc support...doing mplayer -vo xvmc doesn't appear to do anything. But, as I said, gl works just fine.

Yeah, unfortunately xvmc is a nVidia thing. I forgot about that when I posted before.
