I'm just wondering what system tools are useful.
Thanks

Maybe you get more answers if you give us a little hint what do you want to do with the tools or what system you have!?

Sorry, I'm really tired after installing this darn distro.
I'm not sure myself. I am new to this and I don't want to miss a trick. I am using the gnome desktop

If you're looking for tools to administrate/maintain your system, really all you need is pacman, vi, and a shell. Pacman will handle all your package needs, and vi will let you edit all necessary config files. The shell will let you run any necessary admin tools. If you don't know what you need to administrate, you probably should figure that out first.
That said, two "system admin"-like tools I keep around that aren't in [core] are xdiskusage and FSLint.

There's really nothing to be done after that sentence. It's perfect.

Shake (defragmenter), if you're using any of the Ext filesystems.
FSLint, for when you've got some Spring cleaning to do.
Yaourt, the best Pacman/ABS/AUR front-end in the history of Pacman/ABS/AUR front-ends.
And, don't forget grep, sed, cat, less, most, watch, rm, BC-Wipe, find, and BASH.

For me, cpu scaling, gnome-network-manager, yaourt, ntfs-config, compiz + compiz-editor, gtkpacman. I'd say pretty much all of those are essential

I don't have a single one of those installed - And how is compiz a system tool?
