absolutezero1287, running intel sound hardware, reports the issue fixed by the setting of various switches in the mixer. This also seems to correct the issue for the Audigy sound hardware users.

The system affected here is running newer intel sound hardware (from lspci):
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02)

In alsamixer this sound controller displays none of the Analog/Digital, Line Jack Sense and Headphone Jack Sense switches reported by absolutezero1287.

In alsamixer v 1.0.18, the items Line Jack Sense and Headphone Jack sense are the 4th and 7th items, respectively.

The moniker refers to my hobby - skydiving - and the fact that I'm a "dirty low puller" - I like to take it low. The ground screaming at you from 1700 ft at 120 MPH is completely surreal...jumpers call it "ground rush". And there's only ONE WAY to experience it.

And LOTS of flames/snide posts, across the Internet, have smilies in them to disguise the passive-aggressive nature of the post. I don't have much respect for passive-agressive behavior, for some VERY good reasons.

I give as I get. smile

@grndrush: That sounds pretty insane. Skydiving looks fun but what worries me is not jumping off a plane. What worries me is the parachute failing.

In 3200 jumps, I had 10 malfunctions - and I'm writing about it.  smile  "If you're on the ground talking about it, you MUST have done SOMETHING right."  smile

Not insane at all. Statistically, both parachutes "fail" once in 100,000 jumps. I've been inactive for a few years, but last I heard, the guy with the most logged jumps in the world had around 30,000 or so.

As we say, "There's another world in this world, and if you never step out the door of  a plane in flight, you'll die a virgin." It's true.

And if you're an adrenaline junkie like me, it's the ultimate. BASE jumping is really the 'ultimate', if you want to push things, but it IS dangerous - I've never done it. Too many "perfectly good airplanes" (SIC) around to resort to cliffs and bridges, LMAO.
