New to Arch thinking of going 64bit

Hi, I'm new to arch but not linux I currently run debian testing, and while its nice it seems like debian isn't going anywhere (Lenny has been testing FOREVER) and its a little behind the curve on some programs.

I've read a bit on the wiki (mostly the beginner guide) and I'm thinking about going arch 64, no real reason to use 64bit other than its what I'm using now.

The AURs really impress me (Found wine64, a nwn installer, and flash plugin for 64bit)  As does the wiki (so much info crammed into that thing its insane)

Now the real question is, does Arch need a chroot set up? I hate chroots they are messy things that often confuse me more than allow me to use them.

I mostly use, video (dvds/wmvs/mpegs etc) audio (mp3s) flash(theres a package for it) wine (again a package)

So do I need a chroot or will those things be avaible to a regular 64bit install

No you do not need chroot for most things on Arch64.

The new flash64: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=21601 and the new java64: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22264 install like any other package..... and they work really good.

Re: New to Arch thinking of going 64bit

I have not needed any 32-bit libs on my Arch64 install. I use openjdk6 for my JRE and flashplugin-alpha-64 for flash, and all other programs that I use work fine on my architecture.

Well, the nspluginwrapper for flash64 use to need a whole bunch of lib32's.... but now that the official flash64 alpha is out..... there is no reason to use the nspluginwrapper and all of those lib32's. (plus it works so much better.)

I also have to say that I used openjdk6 and the icedtea plugin for a while and it worked pretty good..... then when I replaced it with the jre 64bit beta: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22264 ..... I noticed certain sites that used java web applets finally worked properly..... like Photobucket's: http://photobucket.com/ "bulk uploader" works perfectly now. So I would say use the official jre_beta 6u12_b03-1 in AUR.
