[REQUEST] Laptop Forum

Hey guys, I'd like to request a specific laptop forum, as there are scattered topics dealing with laptop media buttons, wireless, apm/acpi, and speedstep all over the place.

Thanks in advance

Re: [REQUEST] Laptop Forum

I second this request.  As a person who uses arch on a laptop it would be nice to have an organized place to find info.

* votes in favor *

I also think there could be a poll in the language forum to see if that is really needed or what languages should be there .. like atm I only saw a couple scandinavian threads { sorry folks don't recognize the actual language }
I also think we could rename the OTHER part of the forum since it only deals with Pacman & packages, so name it like "Pacman & packages"  or "Arch's package system" or something like that :twisted:

I don't have a laptop, but I support this idea.

Re: [REQUEST] Laptop Forum

I think it's a great idea as well.

If you develop an ear for sounds that are musical it is like developing an ego. You begin to refuse sounds that are not musical and that way cut yourself off from a good deal of experience.

Re: [REQUEST] Laptop Forum

bah, at the same time I could say "why use the arch forums, just go to linuxquestions.org"

I'm talking about an Arch specific laptop forum... 8)

bah yourself ;-) (sorry, i'm in such a feeling at the moment)

the thing is: most laptop problems are not arch problems and you reach a much bigger community writing your problem about laptops first into LQ because the chance is greater that someone there knows your problem because has the same laptop

here, the community is excellent but we are not 130000 users and the chance is not that big that someone has exactly your modell of hardware and can recronstruct your problem

Re: [REQUEST] Laptop Forum

yeah i agree with you, but most of my problems I have figured out myself - and i've made a few laptop packages i don't even need... the reason I requested it was so that I could help others with laptop issues.... and discuss some of mine (heat...ack!)
even if the user base isn't as large, i feel it would be nice to have a place for arch users to go....
and alot of laptop issues can be solved with "grab this package"

i'm not against your idea ... and if you see the need, feel free to ask Judd for it ... only: the forum is already pretty full

the best teacher is experience ... and as i'm lazy learning words for foreign langues (considering this a very boring action), i really appreciate it, if my english is corrected --- offense would be being quiet and letting this crazy swiss from the other side of the globe using wrong words, eh?  tongue  wink

Yep. That's the correct spelling. Unless you're from a terribly lazy, obese couch-potato society that likes to drop letters...

Don't they worry about all those extra letters running around loose, possibly getting together and forming nasty words?

dp: how is it that every thread we hijack ends up on this topic? wink
