Hi all,
I have a curious question, when playing videos with mplayer on my desktop (which has a 64-bit 3.2 GHz dual-core AMD processor[a pretty good processor]) mplayer runs at
around 45% cpu (basically using up one of the cores entirely) but I noticed that on my laptop (32-bit 1.86Ghz single core Intell processor[an average processor]) mplayer runs
at only 8% cpu usage. Is there anything that I can do to lower the amount of cpu usage on my desktop?
also, this is running *.avi files and *.mkv files
It's not a huge deal, but sometimes I would like to do other things while I'm watching videos, and opening other programs causes everything to lag signifficantly.
Thanks in advance for any help
Cyrus

With the same video? Same OS? Same version? Is VLC better or worse?
And *.avi / *.mkv does not help AVI and Matroska are container formats, which contain audio, video, etc. It is those that count. If you get the problem with the same video on both PCs, please run MediaInfo (here and here) on the file and post results.
