Heavy sound distortion on some mp3 files. SB Live.

I have first noticed this problem about a month ago on Debian, but I thought it was caused by some new "feature" in Amarok as I've never experienced it before. But now I've switched to Arch and I still get it, even though I'm now using Exaile and XFCE4 so the problem seems to be caused by something else, like ALSA or gstreamer.

Basically, on tracks containing very sudden "spikes" of volume (think: quiet, BOOM, quiet) the entire playback starts to crackle making the track unlistenable. I've tried fiddling with ALSA volume levels but it doesn't seem to do anything. I'm not getting this problem under Windows or on my portable player, so the files also don't seem to be the cause. I'm not using PulseAudio.

I know it's a very specific problem but maybe someone is getting it as well and knows the solution, or knows what could be causing it.
