thunar-volman doesn't automount anymore [solved]

i don't know if it's because of a thunar-volman update or the fact that i deliberately kill-ed "Thunar --daemon" once, or both, but since then thunar-volman doesn't automount my removable storage devices anymore. also, xfce doesn't launch it on startup anymore. the automounting worked perfectly before. i can manually start "Thunar --daemon" but that doesn't solve the issue, when i plug the device in it just spits this:

thunar-volman: No property info.capabilities on device with id /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_90c_1000_AA04012700007490_1.
thunar-volman: No property info.capabilities on device with id /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_90c_1000_AA04012700007490_1_if0.
thunar-volman: No property info.capabilities on device with id /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_90c_1000_AA04012700007490_1_if0_scsi_host_scsi_device_lun0.

but, if i recall correctly, it did the same even when automounting worked.
dbus-monitor is completely silent when i insert/eject a removable drive (i don't know if this is supposed to happen).

i can mount these devices with no problems at all using the "mount" command.
if i run Thunar --daemon as root, it doesn't even spit the messages i reported above.
any ideas?

/edit: enabling desktop icons (ick) didn't solve the problem. i didn't try the "destroy your fstab" method because i don't want thunar-volman to become my one and only mounting strategy...

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HAL … _correctly
this (plus restarting hal and manually running Thunar --daemon") fixed it.
thanks, got the solution from another thread in this forum smile
