Wireless on an eeepc 901

Hi,
I'm not sure if it is the correct way to start a new thread for my problem. Feel free to merge it with the "Arch on eeepc 901"-thread

I have installed wicd and 2 kernels: stock and zen-eee901-1G. Both detect my wireless device as ra0, and connecting to a wired network trough wicd works fine, but when i try to connect to a wireless network wicd displays "obtaining an ip address" for about a minute but with no success, no matter if the network is wep, wpa or open.
lsmod says that "rt2860sta" is loaded my rc.conf is the following:

MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"
MODULES=(atl1e snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm-oss snd-hwdep snd-page-alloc snd-pcm snd-timer snd snd-pcsp snd-hda-intel soundcore)
USELVM="no"
HOSTNAME="cocomero"

eth0="dhcp"
INTERFACES=(!eth0)
gateway="default gw 10.1.1.1"
ROUTES=(gateway)
 DAEMONS=(syslog-ng !network crond dbus wicd netfs)

i would be very thankful for any suggestions.
