I just installed gnome-do from AUR. Looks nice, but my docky is unusably slow too, compositing is enabled in xorg.

proxima by anychance do you have nvidia graphics card and powermizer is set to the lowest when using it?

Performance level is 0 out of the options 0, 1 or 2.
Performace mode is still on maximum performance though.
Wasn't aware you could manually change powermizer settings, how do you do that?

where do you see performance mode?
and it has to be forced in xorg

Do'h, I had to go through the painful process of compiling it (failed) removing flickr-dependence, installing it (failed), finding the package which provided mdtool, necessary to install it, etc...

here is my device section of xorg.conf (i've a 8600m GT), try to adapt yours with some of these options.. I'm using lastest NVIDIA drivers and I've got no slowness problems with Gnome-Do-cky ..

I added the parts of your xorg that I didn't have and it's still painfully slow. I went to g-conf -> Apps -> Gnome-do, to the docky preferences, and turned off the zoom function. It's working much better now without the zoom, but still has hangups when i summon gnome-do too so I don't know.

proxima_centauri: Unusably slow here too. I have the nvidia173 drivers installed also. Changed to the latest nvidia and still got the same issue.

Looks interesting, but besides the Mono connection, there's also the fact that it's chock-full of Gnome dependencies if you follow them down from gnome-desktop-sharp.... AWN at least has an agnostic version (though it's broken right now). I'm not a fan of docks on the whole, but it's nice for showing off Linux to people who do like them. If only Gnome Do was truly agnostic. I know it works in other DEs/WMs, but it requires half of Gnome to do it.

But, how do I stop it from adding random programmes to the bar? -_-
This is rather annoying.

I remove one, and more show up!

G-conf -> apps -> gnome-do -> docky
there should be something in there for default programs showing, try lowering the number to 0 or 1.

Just add a bunch of your own icons, and then decrease the size of the dock so that there is no "space left" for the automatic ones.
