SPDIF doesn't work except in wine

I've been trying to get my SPDIF coax out to work for the last week, I've tried everything I could find in guides and tutorials. I gave up, but today I had my system on when I started up warcraft III and all of a sudden I had sound. It only works with wine, nothing else... I have no idea why this is and what I need to do to fix it so any help would be appreciated.

Re: SPDIF doesn't work except in wine

Not entirely sure what my soundcard is, but the motherboard is an ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe. I sorta have it figured out, in sound if I change it from analog to digital the SPDIF will work, but then my headphones stop working. Is there a way to have them both playing sound? Kind of annoying having to switch everything I want to use my sound system.

edit: I've been searching for information on the soundcard and the only thing I can find (checked ~12 sites) is that the audio chip is ADI AD2000B.
