nppangband needs libXaw.so.8 but system has only 6 and 7
I installed and ran nppangband which gives me:
nppangband: error while loading shared libraries: libXaw.so.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I then locate libXaw and get:
> whereis libXaw
libXaw: /usr/lib/libXaw.so /usr/lib/libXaw7.so /usr/lib/libXaw6.a /usr/lib/libXaw6.so /usr/lib/libXaw7.a
So is it because Archlinux hasn't updated it or because nppangband uses a beta version of the lib so Archlinux refuses to use it?

Are you running nppangband from extra? If so, file a bug report.

Not sure where is it from, I just installed using pacman -S nppangband
