comprehensive bug report for suspend functionality with XPS 1530

I have KDEMOD 4.2 rc with powerdevil and i have to say powersaving is the one thing i have problem in Linux (I know it is not a linux problem )
powerdevil screen powermanagement /suspend /hibernate have worked for me intermittently since kde 4.0 but for the most part i am having issues
How can i make a bug report where should i post it?
can someone tell me what all to include ?
I really think powermangement should be a very high priority in linux world with so many netbooks and laptops
thanks

Re: comprehensive bug report for suspend functionality with XPS 1530

You can't solve your problem by poking (and complaining about it) at some app that is high up the abstraction ladder. You must go down to the source - to the suspend method (uswsusp, tuxonice, kernel?), you should look there.
Then go to pm-utils and make it work with the suspend method. Only then can you expect your Ksomething, that relies on KDE solid-powermanagement -> that relies on pm-utils -> that relies on the actual suspend software, to work.

You need to install an RTFM interface.

yes and I just want to file a bug report somewhere ...what is the best way to find where the issue lies?
ok guess made a progress I am not able to suspend using sudo pm-suspend command...so my pm-utils is broken

Now how to find why it was not able to recover after the suspend...is there a logfile?

Re: comprehensive bug report for suspend functionality with XPS 1530

Bug reports belong on the bug tracker:

http://bugs.archlinux.org

As for logs, you should have these:

[stijn@hermes ~]$ cat /var/log/p
pacman.log pm-powersave.log pm-suspend.log

So yes, there are logs, and they're in the place you should always be looking for logs wink - /var/log, that is. Try fiddling with some of the quirks to see if that get its going, there's lots of people (including me) that don't have pm-utils working out the box, but succeed in doing so by adding some options (yes, it takes options).

If it's a pm-utils issue you should report the bug upstream and not with Arch devs.
