during boot when using VESA framebuffer, the arch logo that is located in the upper left corner appears twice in a row for me
i was always wondering if that is intentional?

I think that you get one for each processor?

Yes. Get a quad-core and you'll have 4

If you have more than one processor or more than one core. It's silly, but true.

haha very silly
atleast the mistery is resolved for me
damn that will somehow make me speed up the plan to get a quad XD

I thought it was some kind of a bug...
"... being a Linux user is sort of like living in a house inhabited by a large family of carpenters and architects. Every morning when you wake up, the house is a little different. Maybe there is a new turret, or some walls have moved. Or perhaps someone has temporarily removed the floor under your bed."

Hah, I was wondering about that too! I thought it maybe had to do with me using a VGA of 773 when my default resolution is 1280x800...

You can disable the boot logo entirely (my preference) by adding logo.nologo to your kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst, for example:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/6d9615d5-08f3-46de-975d-a2b8d6e38e9b ro vga=773 logo.nologo

I think it's übercool . Even better: try to get your hands on a new Intel quadcore (the i7 series), they have Hyperthreading enabled again - so you should see 8 logos .

Anybody knows what's gonna happen if you have so many cores that the logos won't fit on one line anymore? Will they be wrapped around or will all additional logos get lost?
They say if you reverse play a Windows CD you can hear satanic verses... But wanna know what's even worse? If you forward play it, it's gonna install Windows on your system!

@saciel
Game over.. then we start again with single core .

Really? On my netbook with an Intel Atom it also shows 2 times - Would be news to me if it had 2 cores

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that it has more likely something to do with the VGA setting in GRUB. I encountered that "problem" as well on my old box with a single core CPU.

It's not dual-core. But the Atom is Hyper-Threading, so thats why you see 2 cores!

+1 for no logo. why waste an inch of space at the top of the screen?
anyway, that's just my preference. mostly i continue to be amazed as a new arch person how almost always even my little questions are quickly answered searching the forums and the wiki. so much better than in my recently left behind debian days (though i have had occassion to miss the giant debian repos).
okay sorry, getting off topic a bit. thanks for the logo.nologo tip.
