Kernel 2.6.25.6 works perfectly,so I'm currently using that.
After upgrading to 2.6.28.3, the computer stops responding if I don't interact with the mouse or the keyboard, however if I press a key or move the mouse the computer responds for a short while before freezing again.
X will stop loading if i don't press a key or move the mouse 3 or 4 times. You can hear the computer working, but then it will stop, and if I press a key it will continue.
The same goes for programs, Firefox will stop loading if I don't move the mouse. The best visualization of what is happening is if I load a webpage in Firefox the image in the top right corner that tells you that the webpage is loading freezes until I move the mouse, then it will load a little more before freezing.
If I put ! in front of ipw3945 in the modules array or rc.conf and remove the network and net-profile daemons, X and other programs seem to load fine.
kernel 2.6.27.6 was a disaster and I would get random kernel panics and the computer would randomly freeze and require a hard reset.
This is the only error message that I got as soon as I upgraded the kernel:
iwl3945: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x82000008.
iwl3945: Can't stop Rx DMA.

Thanks for your help

I have no problems using 2.6.28.3 and iwl3945 on my MSI Wind.

I have iwl3945 in my MODULES= list in rc.conf, not ipw3945.
Quoting from an old post by Thayer:
ipw3945 was proprietary and required a daemon as well as the kernel module. iwlwifi is Intel's open source suite of wireless drivers and they only require the kernel driver.
I'm running iwlwifi-3945-ucode-15.28.2.8-1 with kernel 2.6.28-3 on my Thinkpad T61p without problems.

I made a typo, I have iwl3945 in my modules or rc.conf. If other people have it working, maybe I'll try reinstalling everything
Thanks
