[SOLVED] 2.6.28 upgrade, wireless interface has disapeared

this is on a Dell Inspiron 1525,
wireless card is a Broadcom 4312 running the
broadcom driver in accordance with http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_BCM4312

previously my wireless interface was "eth1"  and after  the upgrade, I do not know what it is.
I know that it is not eth0, eth1, wlan0, wlan1,

does any one have an idea?  or know how to find out?

any help is appreciated,

Re: [SOLVED] 2.6.28 upgrade, wireless interface has disapeared

Standard troubleshooting stuff:
Is the module loaded? Can we see the output of lsmod?
Can we see the output of ifconfig -a?
dmesg might be helpful too to see if anything's going on at boot you should know about.

Re: [SOLVED] 2.6.28 upgrade, wireless interface has disapeared

run following then reboot.  sl failed after kernel upgrade.  i'll assume you had wl in rc.conf/modules alraedy

sudo insmod /lib/modules/2.6.27-ARCH/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/wl.ko

Re: [SOLVED] 2.6.28 upgrade, wireless interface has disapeared

I ran insmod, but received an error

insmod: error inserting '/lib/modules/2.6.27-ARCH/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/wl.ko': -1 Invalid module format

Re: [SOLVED] 2.6.28 upgrade, wireless interface has disapeared

I also just noticed that '/lib/modules/2.6.27...../wireless/' only contains wl.ko, but '/lib/modules/2.6.28....../wireless/' contains a whole slew of files for a variety of wireless cards(b43, prism54, rt2x00, and many others).  but no wl.ko

Re: [SOLVED] 2.6.28 upgrade, wireless interface has disapeared

Looks like the module hasn't been updated since the new kernel came out. When there's a new kernel version you need to recompile kernel modules so they will work together.

Re: [SOLVED] 2.6.28 upgrade, wireless interface has disapeared

Thanks mcmillan,  I actually had just done that and then I read your post.   It works now,
I just had to rebuild the module for the new kernel and reinstall and now I'm back online B)

Re: [SOLVED] 2.6.28 upgrade, wireless interface has disapeared
