I have one Thinkpad T60 that I use Windows Server 2003 and Ubuntu 8.10. I wanted to install a triple boot with Archlinux too now. I have been using archlinux before on this laptop and I have it on my servers right now so I am rather used to using it. The main reason I wanted to install it was to test if I could get xorg to work again, last time I installed i got this error too and didn't find a solution to it back then.
Ok, the problem is that when X starts i get a black screen and a X in the middle. I cant move the X with the touch pad or the IBM red dot thing or with an external mouse. I can change numlock on the keyboard but not caps lock. I got these crashes before on my old installation but then i could actually get into a desktop environment and they often hapened when i started mplayer or did something with 3d.

Something that caught my eye from dmesg was this, dunno if it has something to do with this
mtrr: no MTRR for d0000000,10000000 found
Here are images how it looks like, and the error message i get when i SSH into the machine and do killall X. Sorry for the quality only had my mobile camera around.

I'd be guessing that you have an issue with xorg input hotplugging since your mouse and stuff are messed up. Maybe check the wiki on xorg input hotplugging for some guidance. I've seen some mttr errors on my t21 lappy but they don't seem to be showstoppers.

Hmm, started hal daemon and now the IBM dot mouse works but not the touchpad. Maybe have to install synaptics or something. But thanks for the help now I can switch back from Ubuntu
