[SOLVED] Configuring X - Keyboard Detection / Input Hotplugging

I have been attempting to install and configure X on my new installation of ArchLinux. So far, I've been following the beautifully documented Beginner's Guide in the ArchWiki and everything has gone pretty well.

However, I am having a small problem with X. Here is a brief documentation of what I've done so far:

# pacman -S libgl
# pacman -S xorg
# pacman -S xf86-input-evdev
# pacman -S mesa
# lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
# pacman -S xf86-video-intel
# Xorg -configure
/etc/rc.d/hal start

As you can see, I first decided to execute the HAL daemon. I then proceeded with testing X:

# X -config /root/xorg.conf.new

This started up the blank screen with the 'X' in the center. I was then able to move the X around with my mouse. But, when I tried to quit using Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, nothing happens. It seems that X responds with no problems from my mouse, but it doesn't appear to detect my keyboard.

I then tried to just disable input hotplugging and edited my /root/xorg.conf.new file.

Also, here is my /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-keymap.fdi:

I must admit, I am totally clueless on what to do. I've tried searching the Internet for a solution, but I it seems the solution to fix the issue is something that I've already tried (disable/enable input hotplugging). The keyboard is PS/2 and I'm thinking about just finding another keyboard and testing that out.

I'm totally loving ArchLinux so far and will be ever grateful for any tips or advice on resolving this issue.

Thanks for reading!

Re: [SOLVED] Configuring X - Keyboard Detection / Input Hotplugging

Hmmm..

I think I've might have been wrong this whole time, and that it IS detecting my keyboard!

I decided to go ahead and configure my users '~/.xinitrc' file. I went ahead and created it with the following content:

#!/bin/sh
#
# ~/.xinitrc
#
# Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)
#
exec xterm
# exec wmaker
# exec startkde
# exec icewm
# exec blackbox
# exec fluxbox

I then made sure I switched to the user, and ran startx.

X then started with a terminal open. I could move my mouse and type into the terminal. I did however notice that 'Ctrl+Alt+Backspace' would not do anything. So I just simply typed 'exit' into the terminal and was able to close startx.

So perhaps that is my problem. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace just isn't responding for some odd reason.

If anyone has any advice, it would be awesome. I'm just glad I got this straightened out.
