Re: Xorg hard Freezes using Intel Video Driver

I have similar errors in my /var/log/messages with the did-driver, and I don't have any freezes.

I have read opinions that this might be related to the removal of TTM in favor of GEM. Problem today is that current kernels don't have GEM-support yet. That is scheduled for .28.

I don't know if your problem is related to that. Did you upgrade to the new xorg-server recently? Do you have the evdev-driver installed?

Re: Xorg hard Freezes using Intel Video Driver

I did a fresh install 4 days ago and installed kdemod. I don't have xorg.conf and my keyboard is managed by evdev driver.

Do you have EE or WW-entries in your xorg.log?
Do you have freezes outside X?

Re: Xorg hard Freezes using Intel Video Driver

Hmmm... Could the Xbox-controller be the cause of your crashes? Disconnect and see. Either way, you'll need a HAL policy for that controller.

Re: Xorg hard Freezes using Intel Video Driver

I've been experiencing this issue for months. It seems to happen across the board (other distros as well). It appears that the intel driver is the cause.

Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller

is what i'm using on this laptop.

Re: Xorg hard Freezes using Intel Video Driver

I found this which is apparently a workaround:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg … viewstatus

I am going to try adding it to my device section for the intel driver and see if it works.

Re: Xorg hard Freezes using Intel Video Driver

Kernel 2.6.28 from testing fixes my issue.

Re: Xorg hard Freezes using Intel Video Driver

I had the same problem. I ended up manually updating libdrm and xf86-video-intel and that solved my problem.

Re: Xorg hard Freezes using Intel Video Driver

Moving to the newer kernel did not fix the issue for me (although I am using a custom kernel).

I still get the flickering, but I haven't lost the screen yet since adding the No DRI option and I also took DRI out of the custom kernel as well for good measure.

Have you updated libdrm and xf86-video-intel?
That fixed all my problems I was having with X freezing.

Re: Xorg hard Freezes using Intel Video Driver

Yes I did. I almost hate to say it but after over 6 months of having this problem and finally getting fully sick of it and trying everything I could think of to fix it, I decided to install Ubuntu to see what would happen. What did happen was the screen flickering and freezing utterly completely disappeared. I haven't had one problem since. I love Arch and use it on two other boxes but my frustration got the better of me with my laptop. Clearly there is still a problem with one or more of the Arch packages related to the intel video driver judging by the amount of people that have had issues with it. Maybe Ubuntu patched their driver, I'm not sure, but it works flawlessly. Luckily, I use Nvidia drivers from their site using a custom kernel on my other boxes so I haven't had any problems there. I was a bit disappointed by the outcome, but at least I can use my laptop now smile
