After I installed wacom and configured Xorg for my M200 tablet pc, I lost the ability to restart or shut down my laptop. Actually, KDM no longer works either and the initial bootup would just bring me to a blinking cursor after the NVIDIA logo pops up, so I replaced KDM with SLIM and now I can log in just fine.. but when I click to shut down or restart from the KDE4 kicker, the dialog that pops up only has 'Logout'. I can still restart from the terminal but it's a hassle... How can I fix this?

You need to use kdm to have the shut down reboot options, I always have konsole open so just issue sudo halt or sudo reboot command.

I found a solution on the forums that works! The problem, indeed, was with KDM. Here's how I fixed it:
edit the file /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc and look for the section [X-*-Core]. There you add ServerTimeout=30 and reboot your system. kdm should then fire up on its own. The reason for this is that the default timeout of KDM is 15 seconds, which is a bit too short on some systems, including mine
