Yes, I have updated the BIOS two or three times without problems. I use unetbootin to create a FreeDOS USB stick and just unzip the BIOS files there. See also http://macles.blogspot.com
That said, acerfand should also work with the earliest BIOS versions of the AA1 like 3109 and 3114. There were only some intermediate versions like 3307 that do not seem to work.

anyone else having problems with acerfand since today? my fan spins down and up like every 5 secs(seems like how long the update intervall is) and the aa1 is shutting down a while after that, worked like a charm before, has maybe something to do with an update?

I had these problems before and thought that it is because of my BIOS version 3307 which is reported as unsupported by acerfand. I will update to 3309 asap and report whether this fixes anything. btw, I am using the stock 2.6.28 kernel, if that may matter.

i'm using the 3309 bios, the strange thing is it just happened out of nothing, i didn't change anything with it, didnt play around with the script etc, i just did nothing! but i'm not using the stock kernel, maybe that changes something, gonna try it

edit: dunno why i haven't thought of searching in the acer aspire one user forum before, but found the fix there:
http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/view … and#p63967
this works for me, but still testing it if any errors occure!

edit2: after wating 5 and a half minute for two yes > /dev/null to heat up the cpu, the fan started spinning at 70 degree quite normally, so guess this thing is working wink

Re: Acer Aspire One

to make acerfand work on 3309 bios, just replace all 3305 -> 3309 in acerfand file

@Zom: What kernel are you using right now?:)

Still using the kernel-one by gothicknight.

I too am having the suspend issues with home on a XFS formatted SDHC-card. I've tried pm-suspend with some --quirks added and  uswsusp from aur, but neither make any difference. I've tried adding resume to my hooks in mkinitcpio.conf, but it didn't work.

I did try it in the single runlevel, and suspend works there, so I'm not really sure what the problem is.

I'm going to try adding the sdhci module to SUSPEND_MODULES in /etc/pm/config.d/modules. Not that I'm very hopeful.

I really should get around to log pm-suspend somewhere other than tmpfs too, but I'm lazy.

E: Yeah, adding the sdhci_pci module to SUSPEND_MODULES was a bad idea, it just hangs before suspend. Tried putting the card in the right card-reader instead of the left one, got some more progress at least. Now I get backlight back for the monitor at least, but still no picture. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

I'm having problems on gothicknight's .28 kernel on my sdhc at the left slot when booting...I'm using it as home it sometimes fail to detect my SDHC hence I can't boot...I have to restart again to get it to work properly..:)

I'm having problems on detecting wireless networks on my AA1...:( I'm using wicd and wifi-radar...Is this related to the wifi driver I'm using?

what wireless driver are you using? i'm using the ath5k and it works just flawelessly, using netcfg2 forconnecting, or if needed just manually connection through console, are you sure your sdhc isn detected at all? mine just has some weird fs errors, from time to time, but a a manual fschk always cleans that up, what fs are you using on it?

Yes, this is the reason why I have to start it in single. If it fails to detect the card I just pop it out, insert it again, run mount -a and then let it continue booting. I have no idea why it does this. Still, very annoying.

Anyhow, logged my failed resume attempt yesterday, though NOTHING useful whatsoever seems to have come from it:

Re: Acer Aspire One

JFS seems to help somewhat, now I got back to X, but everything was white except the systray. Tried ctrl+alt+backspace, went back into console and X didn't restart. Then just a hard freeze. A restart later, fsck just replayed the journal but nothing went corrupted.

Now, I could try logging the suspend again, since it seems close to resuming. It's weird really, since I had none of these problems with a regular SD-card.

Or maybe I'm just going to put back the other SD card and run this fella as a separate folder somewhere which I just unmount and eject before I go somewhere. Seems a bit unpractical though.

Anybody have any suggestions?

E: Tried to suspend again, got my desktop back, however.... It corrupted the card in the process. Yeah, awesome. Log shows nothing of value.

Sod this, I'm going back to what I know worked, more complicated or not. Maybe I'll try again with a newer kernel or something.

Re: Acer Aspire One

Does suspend2ram work with that setup?

Anyhow, still using KDE4 as my main DE. It's very nice on a netbook. To get it to work properly you need to increase /var/tmp to about 300MB, or about 400MB if you want amarok to work too, otherwise they'll just crash at start.

kdemod 4.1 or 4.2? I had problems before with kdemod 4.1 about system tray icons and when I tried kdemod 4.2 I didn't get it to work,....:(

Do you have any workarounds zom?:)

Why is it my wifi shows (ath0 and wifi0)? I'm using gothicknight' kernel already...:(

My workaround was just to put the systray on the desktop instead of the panel. I'm using kdemod 4.1.96 from their testing repo.

Are you referring to [kdemod-testing] or [kdemod-playground]?

I'll try this as well...:) Do you have any performance lost by removing the "greedy option"?:)

i don't feel like having lost performance, but just doing internet surfing and reading pdfs on it, so nothing that would need much performance.

kdemod-testing. I do have kdemod-playground enabled too. There was an update to testing released this very evening, installing it right now. We'll see how well it works.

E: Kdemod-4.2.0-1 is working fine. Systray still not completely working, but I'm happy anyways. v:)v

This happened when I tried AndyRTR's kernel...My wifi doesn't work if I have this...Also, I'm using gothicknight's kernel26-one(.27) atm...

As for my ifconfig, this is what I get:

You're using the older madwifi driver. If you want to try the newer just add !ath_pci !ath_hal ath5k to MODULES in rc.conf I think. Weird problem though.

Re: Acer Aspire One

I'm in a rather unfortunate situation. I went back to Linpus, mangled that up (for being a user-friendly system, it's very easy to break :\) and want to switch back to arch, but I only have access to wired internet. Are there any usb images floating around with appropriate wifi drivers? I'm trying to build and install them off a portable hd, but it's proving to be time consuming. Before I used larch to make a boot usb, but I can't run that on my messed-up linpus install. Any ideas?

Re: Acer Aspire One

@Zom: I had no success running kdemod 4.2 on my AA1...:( I just tried installing it today but this time my keyboard doesn't work when kdm starts and also I can't start kde as well...

@ichbinesderelch: How did you manage to run kdemod 4.2 on your AA1? Do you have another DE before installing kdemod 4.2?:) If so, did you remove it or just installed kdemod 4.2 alongside?
