^subject is similar to many subjects I have seen recently.
OK, for anyone who reads this thread ACTUALLY read this thread:
**this is posted in newb corner regardless of whether or not the threads above or below fit this bill**
1) Please read this wiki: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Forum_Etiquette
2) *Important* When asking questions, provide as much information as possible, including error messages, terminal output, logs, what you have previously tried, what documentation and searches you have attempted, and related configuration files.
As well, In the case of hardware/driver configuration, it is important VERY IMPORTANT to tell what hardware you have and what version of the driver you are using.
3) If you make changes to the configuration and are still in need of assistance, please provide a fresh copy of your configuration file (ie. updated xorg.conf for video related issues)
4) DO NOT JACK THREADS!!!!! If your problem is EXACTLY the same, go ahead and post in the OPs thread, if not make your own. It often is upsetting to the OP, who has every right for his problem to be troubleshot in his thread, not yours.
5)
I don't think the open source drivers support 3d acceleration. I know for sure that the nvidia driver doesn't.
Please do not post about things you do not know about, especially with guesses. If you don't know something google it, then maybe you will have a definitive answer to a broad topic. If you post bad info, then it is in the "TUBES" forever. This will result in 2 things: other newbs will think you know what you are talking about and try your advice, and you will forever be looked at by passersby as ignorant.
I know it seems hard to spend a couple minutes gathering data BEFORE posting your thread (we do live in a world where everyone wants instant gratification), but I guarantee your issue will be resolved much sooner and you will DEFINITELY get better/ more relevant advice.
As well, the experienced users realize that a *LOT* of people don't know what they know, and everyone has a different knowledge base (in their head) to work from.
So if you do some research and post with a lot of info, and some things you tried, you will get more responses from experienced users. It will be obvious that you are at least somewhat intelligent, and WANT to learn.
Now, I don't know about you, but if I had a problem I couldn't solve with some research I would want to get advice from l33t users, as opposed to any newb passing by your thread.
**this is posted in newb corner regardless of the other threads. If you are already doing these thing, please keep doing so, and soon enough, YOU will become a staple of the community**
