gcc3 packages up for testing

We now have gcc3-built packages up in a special temporary 'gcc3' repository, if anybody would like to risk uncertain death to test them.

If are dumb^H^H^H^Hbrave enough, you can upgrade your entire system by doing the following:

first edit your /etc/pacman.conf file.  Comment out the entire 'current' block, then add the following two lines above it:

[gcc3]
Server = ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/archlinux/0.3/os/i686-gcc3

then you need to freshen all your packages.  Since pacman doesn't have a freshen operation yet, you can do it with some unix trickery:

yes | pacman -Sy `pacman -Q | awk '{print $1}'`

(note the backticks surrounding the last pacman command.)
That will download every package you already have installed and reinstall them with the gcc3 versions.

Good luck.  If you run into troubles, let me know or post them here.

Yea, I'd like to see a show of hands too.  Who's using gcc3?  I know Jeepster and sarah31 are both using it.

Re: gcc3 packages up for testing

I've just merged gcc3 packages to the current repository, so you'll all be getting a huge upgrade soon.  Sorry for the inconvenience, but it's gotta be done.

Since gcc3 packages are in current you won't need the gcc3 repository anymore.   If you were already using gcc3 packages, remove the gcc3 repository from your pacman.conf and re-enable the current one.

Re: gcc3 packages up for testing

that's great! Will i still get the fluxbox error? I noticed that the actual package name is 0.1.11 and not 0.1.12 as it is in the db so it continues not to install.

Re: gcc3 packages up for testing

have downloaded all updates but that is all the install never starts. also xine has mystriously become strictly only capable of playing dvds. mplayer won't install as is protests about a bad /usr/bin/mencoder or something.

any advice is welcome especially for xine because i cannot be without the capability to play the various videos i have.

Re: gcc3 packages up for testing

well i fixed my problems--wel except for mplayer but i don't care now that xine is fixed. xine -V Xv fixed xine and moving the archlinux.org server to the top of the current list fixed xfree86 which was the package causing the trouble because it was not complete (not even close actually).
