Hello,
I have installed Archlinux a few days ago with the default kernel (2.6.8.1). I want to know if framebuffer is configured or I have to build my own kernel to have this option?
And what I need to put in my lilo.conf file to use 1024x768?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi murpheus40.
You can check all the kernel compilation options by inspecting the configuration file, /boot/kconfig26. For example, if you grep this file for 'FRAME', you'll see:
CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y
# CONFIG_FRAME_POINTER is not set
For information on lilo, please consult the LILO mini how-to:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/LILO.html
If you want more how-to information about lilo, see:
http://www.icewalkers.com/Linux/Howto/
You can change the display in lilo.conf by modifying the LILO global section. For example:
# Start LILO global section
boot = /dev/hda
message = /boot/boot_message.txt
prompt
timeout = 600
# Override dangerous defaults that rewrite the partition table:
change-rules
reset
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x256
vga = 773
# Normal VGA console
# vga = normal
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x64k
# vga=791
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x32k
# vga=790
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x256
# vga=773
# VESA framebuffer console @ 800x600x64k
# vga=788
# VESA framebuffer console @ 800x600x32k
# vga=787
# VESA framebuffer console @ 800x600x256
# vga=771
# VESA framebuffer console @ 640x480x64k
# vga=785
# VESA framebuffer console @ 640x480x32k
# vga=784
# VESA framebuffer console @ 640x480x256
# vga=769
# End LILO global section
Important: Don't forget to reset lilo after making changes to lilo.conf by running 'lilo -v' as root.

I just saw I'm using grub and not lilo!!
Ok, I checked my /boot/kconfig26 and CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y
so it should work. I presume if I use grub instead lilo, I just need to add this line?:
vga 773

To answer to myself: yes, it works.
