Sound/samplerate in KDE 4.2

I thought it would be nice to try KDE for a change, and installed the 4.2 RC from [testing].

I have an E-MU 0404 USB and get garbled sound in KDE.

Had the same problem in Gnome, I think it's because the sound has to be downsampled from 48000 Hz to 44100. In Gnome, I installed PulseAudio, which seemed to do this for me.

Do I need PulseAudio in KDE too, or can this be done with Phonon? Or could it be done through dmix?

Thanks.
