Whats up with KDE 4.1.4?

KDE 4.1.4 was released on January 13th which is more than a week ago. Why does it take that long to get KDE 4.1.4 in the repos?
4.1.3 is already there, so it should'nt be that much work to update the PKGBUILDs?

Re: Whats up with KDE 4.1.4?

Version 4.1.4 of KDE was skipped over.  Version 4.2 will be out in about a week, and should be moved over into [testing] or the main repos a short while after that.  Have a little patience, please.  The Arch devs are not your on-demand personal servants.

@bluesurfer

just so you know, you can inform packagers that their package is out of date here: http://www.archlinux.org/packages/?q=kde
there is really no need for a forum thread, especially *yet another* thread demanding why certain packages are taking sooo long to reach the repos.

knock-once 1.2: BASH script to easily create/send one-time sequences for knockd (forum/AUR)

I'm flu-struck and somehow can't get 4.2 stable out of my mind in my delirious state. Hope it's coming along nicely, Pierre!

KDE 4.2 + Koffice 2 + K3B KDE4 native would result in a VERY happy me. Almost there!

Re: Whats up with KDE 4.1.4?

To all users waiting for this upgrade,

Please don't take me locking this thread personally, but I don't want it get any traction. Let me explain why.

There's a phenomenon here at Arch that happens around every major upgrade to KDE or Gnome. First comes the wave of people complaining that these DE are not getting to the repos fast enough. "Arch is a rolling release, why isn't it in the repos" threads will pour in like crazy. Developers will get tons of e-mails. IRC will load up with the same questions.

After it's released, there will be wave after wave of people complaining that it wasn't ready for release. "Why are these packages in Extra? Why couldn't stay in testing until all of the bugs are worked out" threads, e-mails, and IRC posts will be everywhere.

From a developer or moderator standpoint, this can be a lose-lose situation. The number of people that complain will outnumber the number of people that say thanks by hundreds to one. The developers will work like crazy to iron out the bugs; The moderators will be closing thread after thread.

I understand that the opening post isn't about KDE 4.2, but in the larger picture, it is exactly about that. Everyone that does work for Arch would appreciate if everyone else that uses these packages would be patient with the process. DE are not trivial to upgrade and maintain.

Thanks in advance for your understanding.
