Problems with ATI Radeon X1650

Hi there,

I have just ditched Gentoo in favour of Arch (many reasons won't go into it) and the installation seemed to go smoothly. However after I installed xorg I tried to install the ATI closed source drivers however i got the following error

So I installed the xf86-video-ati libgl package instead and configured my xorg.conf using hwd

all went fine I tested it using startx and all appeared as it should do
I then installed fluxbox, ready for use

however when I start up fluxbox everything is shifted over to the right hand side of the screen by 2.5 cm's and about 1.5 cm's down from the top of the screen. This is very similar to a problem that I had using gentoo when using the opensource drivers and no one was able to fix it, the only way being to install the proprietary drivers.

I edited the file with according to the wiki and added 1280x1024 to some of the modes other than that it's what hwd generated.

Well. You could always try using the xf86-video-ati, and running completely without an xorg.conf (but you might want to backup the file). This solved all problems I had with both X and the ATI drivers.

I just tried that and whilst X fired up and appeared to work i had no keyboard and mouse, also the screen was still over to the left.

The only thing that managed to fix it when I was using Gentoo, was to use the closed source drivers... I would like to fix it with the open source drivers if possible as I don't play games the closed source drivers are over kill for me.

If it isn't possible to sort it and I have to use the closed source drivers I won't mind, but it seems like this isn't possible at the moment with the kernel that I have installed? If there is a work around for the closed source drivers to work with this kernel?

Uhm. Well, you might need to install xf86-input-evdev if you don't have it already (it uses HAL and dbus, so make sure they get loaded before X) to get it working without xorg.conf.

As for the screen being to the left, I can't think of another solution, as I don't know what the problem could be, sorry.
