For now i can live with out the updates but would just like to know what went wrong. I can post my /etc/pacman.conf and /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist if requsted.

Try to do pacman -Syy next day. This issue occurs when the mirror is badly synced (boost-1.37.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz was not fetched from oficial archlinux ftp).
Try to wait a day or two, then contact admin of that mirror.
You can use as much mirrors in your mirrorlist as you want. If fetching from one fails, pacman tries to fetch it from another mirror.

Can confirm EVRAMP's comments. I am an Arch newbie and the above has happened to me twice so far in one month. I keep on trying periodically and usually after a day or so it works
never trust a toad...
