So I'm looking to resize the physical partition that my LVM volumes are on. After some research, the man page for pvresize seems to suggest it is possible, but I still need another program to resize the actual partition. I can't find anything that offers to resize a partition without also resizing the filesystem, making this somewhat difficult.
Yup, I see the irony in the situation. I am stuck with exactly the same problem that LVM attempts to fix. But can someone help me out?

cfdisk or fdisk.

I tried cfdisk and didn't find any way to resize anything at all. Same goes for fdisk. I also looked at parted, but it looks to me like it won't resize a partition unless it can also resize the filesystem on that partition... which is a problem.
EDIT: Nevermind, figured it out. Had some false assumptions about a few things that made it harder than it needed to be.

What was your solution?

I downsized the physical volume with pvresize, then deleted the partition in cfdisk and created a new one which started in the same place but ended sooner... which seemed very risky to me at the time, but I didn't have anything important on the hard drive yet.

That's the solution I had in mind - cfdisk/fdisk do not have resize functionality, it's a delete/recreate operation.
