X lock-ups

I configured X using Xorg -configure and after adding the native resolution Modes "1680x1050" of my Samsung TFT LCD I started X and it got frozen, it hard-locked, even the Caps Lock and Num lock keys stoped working and Ctrl-Alt-Delete did not help in anyway. So just like Windows I have manually restart my machine.

Then I configured X using hwd and aded same Modes "1680x1050" line and did a startx and it went pretty fine . I don't understand the reason or the logic for this new xorg.conf file to be working . My on-board graphics card used VIA/openchrome driver without any trouble for my 1680x1050 Samsung TFT LCD (earlier I have ran it on Arch, Fedora and Debian Etch). Here are both the files. Can anyone tell me why my X got locked with Xorg -configure file.
