psi or sim

these are the two ims Iäve found and like so far! just some problems with both of them that I need to fix until I can decide which to use! sim is better except it doesn't keep track of my contacts and groups! anyone else who had this problem and knows how to fix it?
or do you use psi? how can I configure shortcuts for reading new messages? and aim/msn/yahoo works fine, but all my icq contacts seem to be offline but I can chat with them...

Re: psi or sim

psi is a jabber client, meaning in order to connect to icq and such, you're relying on your jabber server's transport protocols. in my opinion, this is a hack. and from what i've heard, developers aren't supporting this anymore, since multi-protocol instant messenger applications are cropping up everywhere.

i've used sim in the past, and have since started using gaim. have you tried it? it's widely considered the best open source instant messenger.

Re: psi or sim

yeah, gaim was the first one I tried out! it was kindo good but one thing I just couldn't live with! the chat thing! I like the icq old style messaging and I couldn't find a way to get gaim doing that... it's a shame!

Re: psi or sim

I was a big SIM fan, until they somehow stopped being so active on the project.. Just check out the bug page and see how many bugs are assigned to someone. There was a bug with the message history and it just wasn't fixed so I switched over to gaim.. They just are very active on the project and the history just looks nice smile

Re: psi or sim

i dont think i understand this ICQ mode.... what's so important about it?  you send a message and the window closes?  why is that better?

Re: psi or sim

I don't have to have any windows open that way! and whenever I recieve a new message I can read it whenever I want.

Re: psi or sim

i guess i understand - it's a matter of preference I guess.  maybe try submitting a feature request to gaim (as it's the best IM client for linux IMO)
