[SOLVED]Kernel update and Nvidia issues

I updated through pacman -Syu and the kernel updated to the 2.6.28 version.
However (as expected) the Nvidia drivers had to be recompiled for the new kernel.

Figuring out that I had to use ABS I ran abs as root. But then the proxy that I'm behind
doesn't let me make connections to non-http ports to perform an rsync that needs to
connect to port 873 on the arch linux server (am I right here?)

So AFAIK I can think of only two possibilities:
A. As a quickfix, I should "downgrade" my kernel to the previous working version. (How?)
B. or someone just give me the PKGBUILD file for the Nvidia drivers big_smile

Thanks!

Re: [SOLVED]Kernel update and Nvidia issues

Have you tried booting the Arch Linux Fallback kernel from your grub to see if that will allow you to use your drivers again?

I know Gentoo offers webrsync to perform an rsync over HTTP for those that aren't allowed to do a normal rsync. Does anyone know if Arch could offer something like that?

Your error seems odd, though. Did you install the NVIDIA drivers from NVIDIA, not from Arch's packages? If so, I'd uninstall them and use Arch's packages. If not, try just using pacman to re-install them, that should work...?

Re: [SOLVED]Kernel update and Nvidia issues

After discarding freeshells, ssh through a mediating server outside the LAN and some other interesting ideas it finally hit upon me to use tor!!
And after a LOT of work I got it working. As far as I can see the man tor is wrong in certain areas and is not at all helpful in setting up tor.
Instead I installed tor on windoze on my friend's machine and copied parts of the torrc config file over. Works like a charm!

Then sudo torify abs rsynced it through port 873 (After punching a hole in the firewall \m/) (irc works too! see you guys on #archlinux! smile smile)
I copied the nvidia dir to my local abs dir and makepkg -si did the rest!

The goodness of X after days of staring at big stupid fonts on the VTs yikes

Oh and wmii rocks!! cool
