since upgrading to 2.6.28 i have really strange problems.
after the mouse issue which i simply solved by using a ps/2 mouse, i have now problems with the cpu (?).
when using gmplayer,xine, xbmc, realplayer or opera these applications crash, and then conky shows for cpu1 -2147483648% usage and htop shows "nan%". .
when i kill the running app this changes to normal, but if i don't do so within some seconds/one minute the whole system freezes and i have to cold reboot. even the sysrq keys do not work reliable.
the logs also do not show anything about this. now i switched back to 2.6.27.8. i haven't have such issues with last two kernels.
i'm using arch64; uname -a: "Linux minerva 2.6.27-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Dec 8 23:24:22 CET 2008 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) Dual Core Processor 4850e AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux".

no one an idea? i think it's a serious issue.
i cannot believe that i'm the only one with this problem.
although i googled i haven't anything similar.
but since i'm no kernel pro, i do not really know what to search for (kernel/cpu lock-ups?).
please, some hints or ideas.

it seems that this is somehow "solved".
i set
hpet=disable
as kernel boot parameter (in menu.lst)
kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-label/SATA-ROOT resume=/dev/disk/by-label/SWAP ro vga=773 5 hpet=disable
and now it seems not to crash anymore, but the clock is now asynchronous.
the kernel uses now the acpi_tm clocksource.
$ cat /sys/devices/system/clocksource/clocksource0/current_clocksource
acpi_pm
is there another noticeable difference between hpet and acpi_pm?
