nvidia twinview question

Is there a way to configure xorg with nvidia / TwinView so the desktop components (taskbars, ...)  are not "stretched" across both monitors? I'm using a laptop that I occasionally hook up to an external monitor. When I connect to the external display, I would like a extra blank screen. I am using fvwm and am hoping this is something not specific to the window manager.

i guess this is windowmanager specifig, having sorta the same setup here and with kde4.2 the bars only go over one monitor but not touching the other one. maybe change the size of the bars to fit only your notebook monitor and not being expanded over the whole 2 screens?
