What's the procedure to kidnap/adopt a neglected AUR pkg?

I know I've seen this mentioned, but I can't find it right now and I can't remember if it was an ad-hoc or a more general solution.

Slingshot's maintainer doesn't seem to have checked the AUR page for over a year.

What's the procedure for adopting the package?

Send an email to aur-general asking for it to be orphaned. Usually after attempting to email the maintainer but if there has been no package updates in a year that can probably be skipped...
