Message during boot says :sr driver needs updating, use bus-type methods....

This message may be "old hat" but the cdrom doesn't show in dolphin, lsusb, and doesn't play.

Perhaps there is a modprobe?

That boot message has nothing to with with the problem, nearly everyone has it - Google.

To the second, why are you using lsusb? Is it an external USB drive? More info please. Has this drive worked before with other OSen? Do other drives in the PC work? Etc...

And, do ls -l /dev/cd*

Thanks for reply. I suspected that the dmesg wasn't appropo.

Flash drives are recognized, HDD's are recognized, but the cdrom is not recognized as a media device sr0.

Further inspection of the problem shows that normal sized 700mb cd media is recognized in dolphin.

The problem reduces to the mini cd media is not recognized in dolphin. The mini cd is not recognized in root media.

When k3b is utilized, the cdrom is recognized and the mini cd data is displayed.

Dolphin does not recognize mini cd media for playback.

Latest kde4 version and x86-64.

Is it Dolphin or your drive that doesn't like mini cd's? .... It should be rare but can happen I guess.
From a file system point of view, mini cds or 700MB cds are the same so either the cd is broken or your drive doesn't like it because you found out that the setup is working with other media.

The drive recognizes the mini cd because it shows in k3b and can be copied therin.

It does not playback in Dolphin which is also kde ops.

No idea what comes next...

Further insight to the problem shows that in FaunOS boot the mini cd is recognized as a media disk sr0. It is also present in k3b.

This performance is obtained in FaunOS for a cd writer (HP), a sony DVD rom and a sony dvd r/w.

Thus, the problem is likely caused by sr0 not being recognized in kde4.2 Dolphin and media disk. As reported in previous post in this thread, k3b does accept the mini cd from the above devices.

Thats a really odd problem .... "big" CDs should also show up as sr0 or whatever is being used, they will show up in the same place. Try mounting the "small" cd manually and see if you get any errors.

As previously posted, the cdrom with a 700MB media disk installed is recognized by Dolphin and appears in media disk.

Please advise how I should mount the mini cd if I cannot find same in the system. It mounts in k3b as reported.

Perhaps you can advise a mount command?

When the usb cdrom with a disk is connected to usb port, it should be recognized as a media disk and appear in dolphin.

This occurs when the system is FaunOS with kde3.5 for all of my rom devices.

This does not happen with mini cd's in kde4.2 .

It seems there is a defect in the mini cd which is not seen in other OS systems.

I reburned the mini cd and it is recognized by Dolphin with a smaller icon.
